POTSDAM – The U.S. Geological Survey office in Potsdam is closed as part of the U.S. Government shutdown.
The U.S.G.S. New York Water Service field office in Potsdam was empty Wednesday, and a sign on the door explained that federal employees not in essential positions are prohibited from conducting work "until further notice."
If you search for "USGS Potsdam" on Google to see what they usually do in the Potsdam office, you get a notice explaining that USGS.gov and similar U.S. government web sites aren't available either.
Many of the functions of the federal government have been shut down due to a policy dispute in the U.S. Congress which is preventing a budget measure from passage in the House and Senate.
