RENSSELAER FALLS – A faulty woodstove chimney has been blamed for a fire that heavily damaged a home at 289 Stevenson Rd. Saturday, according to St. Lawrence County fire investigators.

The property is owned by David Thurman, investigators said.

The Rensselaer Falls, DeKalb and Richville fire departments responded shortly after the fire was reported at 3:47 p.m. The Rensselaer Falls Rescue Squad also reported to the scene but no injuries were reported.

Mutual aid was provided by the Hermon and Heuvelton fire departments and the Gouverneur, Canton, Pyrites and Morley fire departments were on stand-by.

The building was insured, investigators said.
