MORRISTOWN — At approximately 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, the Morristown Fire & Rescue Company was dispatched to an unknown type fire in the 200 block of the English Settlement Road.

The Morristown Fire Department responded with five fire trucks, an ambulance and 20 firefighters.

Morristown Fire Chief Jay Moore arrived on scene and transmitted a working structure fire with flames showing through the roof, according to Kevin Crosby of the fire department.

“Morristown Engine 34 arrived with its crew of four and sent two attack teams each with 1¾ inch attack lines up into the attic of the structure where they encountered heavy smoke, fire and heat in the roof structure,” he said. “The attack teams made quick work of the main body of fire and began overhaul operations.”

Morristown was assisted on the scene by the Brier Hill, Hammond and Heuvelton fire departments, the Morristown Jr. firefighters and Morristown Auxiliary.

The cause of the fire has been listed as a faulty chimney, Crosby said.

Chief Moore said that firefighters did an “awesome job” knocking the fire down making a great save. Moderate damage was done to the roof of the building and one room on the second floor and water damage throughout the building, Crosby said.

No injuries were reported and most of the family’s belongings were removed to a close by garage while firefighters battled the blaze.

There were two adults and one child living in the residence.
