Ogdensburg man charged with hiding son from police while wanted for Halloween beating

Alton R. Nugent, 66, of 1848 Jay St. is charged with single misdemeanor counts of third-degree hindering prosecution, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and fourth-degree criminal facilitation, police said.

Alton Nugent allegedly "provided aid and assistance" to his son, Michael Nugent, 30, to help him evade capture while wanted on a county court warrant, police said.

Michael Nugent, along with Steven Horton Jr., 28, of Brier Hill, allegedly assaulted Anthony Rybka at DaVinci's Tavern in Ogdensburg on Halloween night.

Rybka was left with shattered orbital bones that required titanium plates, according to a Facebook post from January offering a reward for information leading to Michael Nugent's arrest.

Michael Nugent and Horton have been charged with felony assault.

Alton Nugent was released with an appearance ticket for Waddington Town Court, police said.
