MASSENA -- A Tuesday morning fire on Grinnell Avenue displaced a family of seven and destroyed a house.
Massena Fire Chief Ted Krywanczyk said firefighters responded to 10 Grinnell Ave. around 9:30 a.m.
He described the building as “a total loss” and St. Lawrence County Fire Investigators described the damage as “moderate.”
He said fire officials believe the blaze started in an upstairs bedroom. The county fire investigation team ruled the cause as accidental.
Shawn Thrana owns the house, who rented it to Heather Cole, Jeremy Tilden and their five children, Krywanczyk said. He added that they are staying with relatives until they find a new home.
Thrana has the property insured, but Cole does not have renter’s insurance, county fire investigators said.
One firefighter complained of lightheadedness, received treatment at Massena Memorial Hospital and was released, the fire chief said.
