Failing septic systems at residences around Black Lake could be in for repair soon if a county application for grants is successful.

Subject to approval by the Board of Legislators, St. Lawrence County intends to submit a Community Development Block Grant application on behalf of the Town of Macomb and the Town of Morristown to repair and replace septic systems for homes around Black Lake.

If funded, the grant would help low- to moderate-income households repair or replace failing septic systems. This assistance will be made available to year-round residences in the Indian River watershed that are occupied by households who meet income-eligibility guidelines.

People who are interested in participating in the project should contact the County Soil and Water Conservation District at 386-3582 to participate in a phone interview and be placed on a waiting list.

Both towns will hosting public hearings at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25 to give residents the opportunity to learn about the project and comment on the grant application, which is due Dec. 20.

In Morristown, the hearing will be at the Morristown Fire Hall, 200 Morris Street in the village.

In Macomb, the hearing will be at the Municipal Building, 6663 State Rt. 58 in Brasie Corners.

Both locations are accessible to persons with disabilities.

Staff from the county Planning Office and the Soil and Water Conservation District will provide an overview of the program, and describe how the project will be implemented if it is funded.
