Events starting to come together for 2016 Winter Chill in Massena, Waddington, Lousiville; more volunteers needed

MASSENA -- The 2016 Lake St. Lawrence Winter Chill is starting to come together, with 10 happenings set in stone for the Feb. 13 to 22 event.

Event coordinator Mike Gagner said there are numerous other events in the works.

“There’s quite a few things that haven’t been firmed up as of yet,” he said.

The event committee also seek volunteers to help out and organizations to help with other goings-on.

This would be a good opportunity for any North Country, organizations, groups or just plain interested in helping with any special events or things that they do, winter events,” Gagner said. “We certainly need volunteers.”

The Boys and Girls Club of Massena will hold a fundraiser at the Copper still Feb. 13 from 7 to 11 p.m. Plan B will perform. There will be basket raffles and a photo booth.

Legendary NHL players will be at the Massena Arena Feb. 14. The Montreal Canadiens Legends alumni squad will take the ice. The team includes coaches Guy LaFleur and Yvon Lambert, along with skaters Guy Carbonneau, Eric Desjardins, Pierre Dagenais, Vincent Damphousse, Claude Lemieux and others.

Wounded Warriors will host a sled hockey tournament at Massena and Louisville arenas Feb. 13 and 14.

The Massena Rod and Gun Club will host skeet shoots Feb. 13 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Massena Music Friends will host a music showcase from Feb. 18.

The Massena Volunteer Fire Department will serve a chicken barbeque Feb. 20 at 11 a.m.

Massena Community Center will host a coffee, cake and quilt sale Feb. 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Louisville will host events at Whalen Park all day Feb. 20. A fun run 5K is slated for 9 a.m. that day. Human foosball will be at noon. A pond hockey three-on-three tournament will noon to 11 p.m. There will also be beer, bonfires, food and pulltabs Feb. 20 and 21.

The St. Lawrence River Walleye Association's 10th Northern Pike Challenge will be in Waddington and Louisville Feb. 20.

On Feb. 21, Knights of Columbus will serve a “Minion Mania” breakfast.
