Due to the rising costs of fuel, the state's Empower NY Energy Smart Program is willing to assist National Grid customers who are eligible for the Heating Energy and Assistance Program, or HEAP.
This program provides cost-effective energy efficiency measures, particularly lighting and refrigerator replacements, which will lower energy use for qualified customers.
Other cost-effective energy efficiency measures such as improving insulation, heating system upgrades, draft reduction, and conversions from electric to gas appliances and water heaters may be included.
If you have never received help from Empower NY, are a St. Lawrence County resident, are a HEAP-eligible National Grid customer, and are age 60 or older, you may call the St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging for an application to see if you're eligible, 386-4730; under the age of 60, call Empower NY, (800) 263-0960. You may also pick up an application at Neighborhood Centers.
This program does not cover fuel costs.
