PIERCEFIELD — An electrical malfunction is being blamed for a fire that caused “moderate” damage to a home on State Route 3 Thursday afternoon, according to Piercefield Fire Department Chief Leo Sarazan.

A passerby saw the fire and reported it around 3:30 p.m., he said.

About 7 or 8 Piercefield firefighters along with around 25 firefighters with three trucks from Tupper Lake responded and battled the blaze, Sarazan said.

Fire was coming from the building and the flames had been burning for an hour or more, Sarazan said.

The fire is believed to he originated in the kitchen area.

No one was home at the time of the fire, he said. There were no injuries.

Red Cross reported that they were assisting three people following the blaze. Two adults and a 17-year old received shelter, food and clothing following the fire and will receive assistance in the coming days.

Cranberry Lake Fire Department was on standby.

The home is believed to have been insured.
