NORWOOD – An eight-year-old Potsdam girl drowned at Norwood Beach last night.
Angelina M. Jarrett was found by lifeguards submerged in about eight feet of water and not breathing shortly before 7 p.m., according to state police.
Life saving measures were initiated by the lifeguards and Norwood Rescue first responders, troopers said.
The girl was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital where she was pronounced dead at about 7:30 p.m.
“The beach is closed today as we evaluate the situation,” said Norwood Acting Mayor Mike Zagrobelny. A meeting of beach personnel is planned for today.
He said that Norwood first responders, Potsdam Rescue and Norwood Village Police also responded to the scene.
“Our thoughts and prayers of course are with all those involved,” Zagrobelny said.
An autopsy is planned.
