AKWESASNE – The usual Friday night race card at Mohawk International Raceway was run on Thursday night this week, with just as much excitement and fun.

The 12 lap Mod Lite feature was the first event of the night, and Mathieu Robinson and Bryan Green took the field to the green flag. Robinson, already a three-time winner in 2012 at Mohawk International Raceway took the lead from the beginning, but Green stayed in his tire tracks through the first 10 laps. At the two lap signal, Green made the move around Robinson for the win. Joel Hargrave also got past Robinson on the final lap to finish second while Matt Meuten and Scott Waldorff rounded out the top five.

The next feature to hit the track was the Mohawk Racing Parts/Bailey Motor Company 35 lap Pro Stock Series Race. After an early caution on lap two for Daniel Desnoyers slowing in turn three, the next 27 laps went caution free as Ghislain Valade and George Renaud pulled away from the field. The next caution came out on lap 29 as debris on the track set the stage for a great finish. One more caution would slow the pace on lap 31 as 2010 Pro Stock Champion at Mohawk Raceway Rickey Thompson spun in turn two, but Ghislain Valade went on to win over George Renaud, PJ Peters, Joey Ladouceur and Jody Swamp.

Danny O’Brien and Billy Dunn started on the front row of the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series event by virtue of a draw for starting positions for the top heat race finishers. Dunn set the pace early leading the first 16 laps before the first yellow of the night came out as Travis Braun spun in turn two. When the race resumed, Carey Terrance took over the top spot from Dunn with Terrance beginning to put some distance between the two cars through the first 25 laps. The next yellow came out on lap 32 for Tim Currier slowing on the front straightaway, and with the race approaching halfway, Terrance seemed to have the car to beat and he continued to set the pace until the next yellow on lap 45 as Mike Adderley slowed in turn three with a flat right rear tire. The complexion of the race would change drastically just two laps later as the leader Terrance stopped in turn two with heavy front end damage forcing another yellow. Dunn inherited the lead, but he still had some work left to do with a potent field of cars behind him. On the ensuing restart, a multi car incident brought out the red flag, taking Danny O’Brien and Mario Clair out of the race, and sending several others to the pits for repairs. Once the race resumed Dunn would continue to set the pace, and despite several cautions in the final 25 laps, Dunn went on to pick up his first career DIRTcar 358 Modified Series win. Dale Planck, Erik Rudolph, Carey Terrance, who took advantage of the lengthy red flag to make repairs rebounded nicely for fourth place with Tommy Flannigan rounding out the top five

A strong field of Sportsman cars were also on hand, and their 20 lap feature was up next as Neal Provost and Jenna David brought the field to head starter Austin Swamp’s green flag. Provost took the lead early and held it for the first six laps before Wyatt Mullin made a nice move on the outside to grab the top spot, Mullin held the lead for the next few laps, but the current point leader and reigning Sportsman champion Dylan Evoy was making his move through the field and was up to second as the race hit the halfway point. Mullin continued to lead until a lap 12 yellow as Dana Aikins stopped in turn three slowed the field. Evoy would grab the top spot on the restart and go on to score his second consecutive win at Mohawk Raceway and third of the 2012 season. Brent Kelsey had a strong run in second place, Jessica Power finished in third, Wyatt Mullin finished fourth while early leader Neal Provost rounded out the top five.

The final feature of the evening was the Bandit division and Matt Zira and Stuart Mossow brought the field to the green flag. Zira led the first lap, but Mathieu Aubin took over before the completed lap two and went on to win his second consecutive feature at Mohawk International Raceway. Zira finished second with Corey Castell rounding out the top three.
