Host team Rosey’s Racers celebrate winning the 'C' Division of Droppin’ the Gloves on Cancer held October 7-9 with cup sponsor Sharlene Lantry from Helena General Store. All tournament proceeds benefit women’s cancer awareness and support at Massena Memorial and Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

The 3rd Annual “Droppin’ the Gloves on Cancer” women’s hockey tournament was held over Columbus Day weekend at both SUNY Potsdam's Maxcy Hall and Clarkson University's Cheel Arena with five teams competing while raising money in support of awareness and educational programs and support initiatives for women in the North Country that are or have battled breast, cervical, uterine, and ovarian cancer.

The only women’s hockey tournament in the North Country has raised nearly $23,000 over its three-year history through sponsorships, team fees, raffles, survivor rides, and “Pink Seats.”

Teams competed in two divisions this year. The “C” division included Rosey's Racers (Brasher Falls) and St. Lawrence Cougars (Massena) with Rosey’s Racers taking home the trophy.

The “B” division included the Pink Panthers (Hogansburg/Massena), Wheatfield Blades (Buffalo), and Team Fiacco with the Wheatfield Blades raising the tournament cup for the first time in three tries.

The tournament sponsors include: Clarkson and SUNY Potsdam Athletics, NorthCountryNow.com, St. Lawrence Gas, Frenchie’s Ford, Pepsi-Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers, Helena General Store, Scott’s Auto Center, Fay Motors, and First Class Aire.

Tournament organizers are considering a co-ed and U19 division next year. If you have a team interested in participating, contact Julia Rose at 769-4602 or jrose@massenahospital.org.
