State police’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign led to over 3,000 tickets, but only a small fraction of those were for actual impaired driving, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office.

The campaign, which ran from Aug. 19 to Sept. 5, yielded 3,121 tickets in Troop B, which covers the North Country and includes St. Lawrence County. Those tickets included 60 driving while intoxicated arrests, 981 speeding citations, 54 distracted driving tickets, 174 cited for child restraint and seatbelt violations and 49 “move over” violations, Cuomo said.

The governor’s office says statewide totals for the campaign’s duration yielded 43,704 total tickets, with 739 for DWI. That also included 17,555 speeding tickets, 1,413 for districted driving, 2,306 for child restraint and seatbelt violations, and 531 for “move over” violations.

Additionally, troopers investigated a total of 3,243 crashes, compared to 2,973 during last year’s campaign. Of these crashes, 1,006 people were injured and 11 were killed, Cuomo said.
