MASSENA -- The Massena Intake boat launch may get “dramatic improvements,” according to Local Government Task Force Chair Joseph Gray.

There will be a presentation on the proposal Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall’s second floor board room.

“The improvements will address long-standing needs like year-round piers/docks for late season fishing and hunting and will make the ramp more accommodating to host large-scale competitive fishing tournaments,” Gray said.

New public restrooms and a pavilion to house community events are also part of the proposed design, he said.

“This facility upgrade one part of the $7.5 million in new recreational facilities the Task Force secured during negotiations of the 10-year review of the New York Power Authority’s 2003 license to operate the St. Lawrence/FDR hydropower facility,” Gray said.

Additional recreational improvements are planned for facilities in the towns of Louisville and Waddington, as well as the Village of Waddington, he said.

Representatives from the Kleinschmidt Group, the Maine based consultant hired by NYPA to design the improvements, will be on hand to present the preliminary drawings and explain the overall concept of the design, as well as specific aspects.
