NORWOOD -- The Commissioner of the New York State Department of Transportation will be the keynote speaker at the St. Lawrence County Democratic Committee’s annual Fall Harvest Dinner at SUNY Potsdam Oct. 15.

Matthew Driscoll, commissioner of the NYSDOT and former mayor of the City of Syracuse from 2001 to 2009, was appointed to the Department of Transportation’s top spot earlier this year.

Prior to that Driscoll served as president of the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation.

In addition to Driscoll, New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and NY-21 Democratic Candidate for Congress Mike Derrick will be attending the dinner.

DiNapoli is the 54th Comptroller of the state of New York, a position he has held since 2007.

Mark Bellardini of Norwood, Chair of the St. Lawrence County Democratic Committee Bellardini says that this year’s winners of the prestigious Silas Wright Award are Fred Morrill and Vernon “Sam” Burns.

“Fred and Sam have spent their careers exemplifying what it means to be a Democrat through their hard work and dedication to their communities.”

The Silas Wright Award is named after former NYS Governor, Silas Wright (D- Canton).

The dinner will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15, at SUNY Potsdam’s Barrington Student Union.

Dinner tickets are $50 per person and tickets for the VIP reception are $100 per person.

Reservations are required for both.
