St. Lawrence County residents will be turning clocks back an hour tonight – or Sunday morning, if you prefer – to leave Daylight Saving Time behind and get synced with Standard Time again.
It has become common for people to take this as a cue to make their twice-yearly checks of their smoke, fire and carbon monoxide alarms, and replace the batteries.
The change officially happens at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, when it magically becomes 1 a.m. again. Many people are pleased to retrieve the hour they “lost” in the spring when the clocks moved ahead an hour for Daylight Time.
Lots of clocks are “smart” enough to make the change themselves, so don’t be surprised to wake Sunday morning to see a clock you set back an hour Saturday night suddenly another hour behind.
