GOUVERNEUR -- St. Lawrence County Community Action Angels are collecting donations for a Gouverneur family that narrowly escaped from a house fire Monday.

The fire destroyed the home and belongings of John and Amanda Ulmen who were forced to jump from the second story window and throw their children from the same.

Both John and Amanda sustained injuries and the children were being evaluated at last update.

The Action Angels are collecting donations to help the family get back on their feet.

"Community Action Angels is gathering donations for a family of four, including a toddler and a newborn, who have just lost everything in a fire," Coordinator Alicia M. Murphy said.

Murphy said there is currently a limited amount of space for donations, so only the essentials or gift cards are requested at this time.

"We are encouraging people to send gift cards to the family, care of the Gouverneur Neighborhood Center," she said.

The mailing address is 15 Rock Island Street; Gouverneur, NY 13642.

Envelopes should be marked accordingly.
