MASSENA -- The Massena school district’s Board of Education accepted a $4,600 gift from the Massena Music Friends at their meeting on Tuesday night. The grant will purchase a new bassoon for the high school band.
“I know this will be very much appreciated by Mr. (Jonathan) Hunkins (high school band director),” Superintendent of Schools William Crist said. “The current bassoon is about 50 years old.”
“We hope this isn’t the last you hear from us,” Massena Music Friends member Paul Haggett told the board. “We have a number of fundraisers planned for the year.”
The Northern New York Community Foundation acted as the “financial conduit” to channel the money to the school district, Haggett said.
