OSWEGATCHIE -- A new Dollar General store is expected to be built next spring just outside the Village of Heuvelton, according Deputy Director Jason Pfotenhauer of the St. Lawrence County Planning Office.
The county reviewed the proposal at the Nov. 10 meeting and it has been passed on to the Oswegatchie board for approval.
The 9,300 square foot building, which is a standard size store, will be located at the corner of State Route 812 and McIlwee Road. It includes 32 parking spaces. A 911 address has not been assigned.
Dollar General has built store in Winthrop, Norwood and Waddington recently and has about 10 stores in St. Lawrence County total.
When asked why Dollar General is building stores in more rural locations, Pfotenhauer said “they feel there is a market share, that they can provide a service to the area and the other stores are doing well.”
Construction will be done by Bohler Engineering of Albany.
