POTSDAM -- A Potsdam man recently opened “Dog’s Best Friend,” a pet grooming business located at the Potsdam Humane Society, 17 Madrid Ave.
“I saw a need,” owner Larry Loomis said.
Loomis said he is friends with many members and volunteers at the shelter and said that there was an empty room at the facility with some stuff stored in it that was going to be thrown away.
Loomis said he pitched the idea to run a grooming business to members of the animal shelter and the board approved it.
He described his relationship with the shelter as “mutualistic.”
Loomis, a Potsdam Central graduate, has groomed animals for 27 years, the last five at a local shop. Prior to that he lived and worked in Los Angeles after leaving St. Lawrence County in 1984.
Haircuts, baths and nail trimming will all be offered. Haircuts and baths are by appointment only while nail trimming can be done on a walk-in basis.
The shop will open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. To make an appointment, call 212-9851.
“I love what I do…I consider it my art,” he said.
