POTSDAM -- Canton-Potsdam Hospital has hired a doctor who specializes in treating diseases and conditions that cause pain or restrict movement.
Sheryl Movsas, a physiatrist and rehabilitation specialist, is board-certified in physical medicine and as a rehabilitation specialist, according to St. Lawrence Health Systems, which operates CPH.
She diagnoses and treats a diseases and conditions of the musculoskeletal system that cause pain or restrictions of movement. These may arise from neuro-degenerative disease, workplace or sports injuries, auto accidents and abnormalities affecting the body’s bones, joints, ligaments, muscles and nerves. She works with a team of clinicians, including pain medicine specialists, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and occupational therapists to reduce or eliminate pain and optimize functionality using non-surgical treatments, SLHS said.
Movsas completed her medical degree at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and did residencies at UMDNJ/New Jersey Medical and the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, NJ. She completed a fellowship at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City.
She will now treat patients at the CPH Pain Medicine and Physiatry Practice in the Cheel Medical Campus, 49 Lawrence Ave. in Potsdam, and in the CPH Physiatry Practice located at 80 E. Main St., Canton.
