MORRISTOWN -- Residents of the Village and Town of Morristown are will have a chance to learn and discuss the Dissolution Alternatives Report Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. at the fire hall.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the Morristown Fire Hall, 200 Morris St, Morristown, NY 13664.

The Dissolution Study Committee has been considering the impacts of village dissolution since February 2017 with assistance from the study consultant, the Development Authority of the North Country and the New York Department of State.

The first phase of the study evaluated how services are delivered to taxpayers in the village and town and the costs of those services. The results of the existing conditions phase were presented to the public during the first public informational meeting on Aug. 22.

The second phase of the study analyzed the alternatives to current delivery of Village services and the impacts of village dissolution on municipal taxes.

The purpose of this second public informational meeting is to:

• Summarize the work completed by the Committee during the alternatives phase, which is detailed in the draft alternatives report.

• Provide an overview of the projected impacts of village dissolution on municipal tax rates.

• Provide an overview of the next steps of the dissolution study. The dissolution study is being funded in-part through a state grant. The committee is posting information developed during the study at the following link: www.danc.org/morristown-study

Committee members urge residents to attend the Nov. 28 session and to visit the website to learn more about the dissolution process. The village board anticipates the Committee will be finished with the study by January 2018.

For those residents that are unable to attend the meeting, copies of the meeting presentation will be available online and at the village and town municipal offices.
