If the strong and gusty winds predicted for today arrive it could change things, but so far National Grid is reporting just a handful of power outages among St. Lawrence County customers this morning.
Within the last hour, fewer than five National Grid customers in the Gouverneur area were reported to be without power.
The power company expects to have electricity restored to those customers by 11:15 a.m.
Today’s sloppy, wet snow combined with high winds expected to blow in today could make power outages and downed tree limbs and branches widespread.
The blanket of slushy snow has caused most schools in the St. Lawrence County to close or to open late.
The National Weather Service says we should expect rain to continue and winds from the northeast at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph through mid-morning, gradually decreasing to 15 to 20 mph this afternoon.
