CANTON – St. Lawrence County’s homepage was hacked Aug. 21, but Deputy St. Lawrence County Administrator Dylan Soper says the hackers obtained no sensitive information.

“Yes, the County website was hacked earlier today. Thankfully, the County website is hosted through a third party server separate from any personal or sensitive information. The user login and passwords that were posted to the front page of our website were solely used for the site in which we update and edit our website,” Soper said in an email response to a request for comment Tuesday.

“We have no reason to believe that anything other than information already available to the public through our website was obtained. Our IT professionals are working to get the site back up and running for public use as soon as possible.”

St. Lawrence County’s website was shut down after being hacked Tuesday afternoon. The homepage included a doctored photo of former President Barack Obama and President Donald Trump kissing.

A message from the hackers on the page read “Yo! YOUR SERVERS AND DATABASES ARE HACKED! WE GET A LOT OF INFOs, documents, mails and other important things from your DB and servers. Contact us: 13ourmission37@hackermail.com.”

The website was later updated by hackers to include usernames and passwords of several county employees. The site is currently down.
