POTSDAM — A Canton man was killed Tuesday after his vehicle crashed head-on with a pickup truck on U.S. Route 11, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.
Donald M. Smithers III, 22, Emerson Road, died Tuesday afternoon after the 2005 Chevy Impala he was driving crossed into the eastbound lane striking a 2006 Chevy truck driven by 65-year old John Chapman of Norwood, officers said.
Smithers was pronounced deceased by St. Lawrence County Coroner June Wood, deputies said.
Chapman was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for a possible broken arm, cuts and abrasions, deputies said.
The accident reportedly took place around 11:47 a.m. near the 1844 House.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
