CANTON -- State Department of Motor Vehicles offices in St. Lawrence County and across the state were not able to process transactions today, following a mainframe upgrade, St. Lawrence County Clerk Mary Lou Rupp said.
DMV computers have been down since opening this morning and offices have not been given an estimated time for when the problem will be resolved.
Although transactions cannot be processed, the staff at the St. Lawrence County DMV offices is accepting renewals and plate surrenders that can be dropped off and mailed back to the customer.
Rupp said an outage with the department's main computer system that has affected DMV transaction processing across the state.
County clerks have been notified that the problem appears to be a complication resulting from a mainframe upgrade performed by the Office of Information Technology Services
(ITS) Sunday.
Rupp said the system was fully tested after the upgrade was completed; however there appears to be an issue that presented itself under the normal transaction volumes that was not detected during testing.
ITS is currently working to identify and resolve the problem, according to Assistant Commissioner DMV/County Clerk Liaison Omarr Evans.
