Democratic challenger to North Country Congresswoman Stefanik says Senate health care bill will hurt millions

Congressional candidate for New York’s District 21, Patrick Nelson (D-Stillwater), says the new Senate version of medical insurance coverage “will take away affordable health care from millions of citizens within the United States including many within the North Country.”

Stillwater posted a Facebook Live video on the release June 23 of the latest Republican version of healthcare legislation.

“This bill continues to include denying Medicaid patients access to health services provided by Planned Parenthood,” he said in a statement to the press.

“The bill threatens tax credits for most New Yorkers that receive them through the NY State of Health Exchange and could force NY taxpayers to fund an expensive emergency session of the State Legislature to protect them. This at a time when the state still fails to fully fund public schools,” he said.

He claims the bill raises taxes on “hardworking middle class Americans and rations care to middle-aged and low-income Americans. It does all this to fund a massive tax break for the top 1%.“

Referring to the plan as “Stefanikare” after Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-Willsboro, whom he wishes to unseat in 2018, Nelson said “Congresswoman Stefanik and her friends in Washington have decided to give away more of our hard-earned money to their wealthy campaign donors and ration health care for working people to pay for it.”

“We are at a time of historic levels of income and wealth inequality, where the rich are getting richer and working families are struggling to get by,” Stillwater said..
