Mike Derrick, retired U.S. Army colonel and Democratic congressional candidate in New York’s North Country district, said he’s encouraged to see high turnout in the New York presidential primary Tuesday.
"I want to congratulate Sec. Clinton and Sen. Sanders for running passionate, informative campaigns in New York. It is increasingly encouraging in this election year to see higher voter turnout and greater community involvement,” Derrick said in a statement Wednesday.
“Sen. Sanders deserves huge credit for his significant victories in every county of New York's 21st congressional district. And Sec. Clinton's statewide win is clearly a reflection of her popularity in the Empire State. I continue to look forward to working with whichever of these capable candidates is our nominee to unite and energize supporters across the North Country.”
Derrick hopes to unseat first-term Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-Willsboro, in November’s election.
“North Country working families clearly want to revitalize our economy, protect our environment, reform campaign finance, and stand up against unfair trade – unlike Elise Stefanik, who supports the job-killing Trans-Pacific Partnership that resembles past trade deals that have gutted our economy," Derrick said.
