Democrat Cobb says 3rd quarter fundraising gives her confidence of momentum in congressional race

Twenty-First Congressional District candidate Tedra Cobb, a Democrat from Canton, says her third-quarter fundraising of $750,000 shows she has momentum headed into the final month of the campaign.

The amount raised through the end of September tops amounts raised in previous quarters. The total raised now stands at $1,169,000 since the race began, a press release from her campaign said.

The release emphasizes some differences with her main opponent, two-term incumbent Republican Elise Stefanik of Willsboro.

The statement notes that “0% of Tedra’s funding” for the campaign comes from insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, corporate PACs or DC lobbyists, and that “65% of supporters live in the district; 87% of supporters live in New York State.”

It further claims that over 1600 people have volunteered from throughout the district to help with her campaign, and that Cobb has made more than 90 public appearances.

“Rep. Stefanik isn’t who she said she is when she was elected to Congress. She has spent her adult life working in politics in Washington, DC and her voting record reflects that,” Cobb said in the statement.

“She voted to close rural hospitals, to eliminate protections for people with pre-existing conditions and to raise premiums on the rest of us. She raised millions of dollars from special interests, political action committee and lobbyists - the very people who profit from our misery. I will go to Congress and work for the people of this district.” she said.

“I don’t have a bunch of political friends in Washington like Rep. Stefanik, and I plan to keep it that way. The only interests I will represent in Washington are those of the people of Northern New York,” the statement concluded.

Cobb’s $1.1 million total raised through September is less than the $1,588,389.08 in cash on hand that Stefanik’s campaign reported to the Federal Election Commission as of June 30, the end of the second quarter. Stefanik’s second quarter report shows $1,020,783 in contributions from “other political committees (such as PACs). Her total raised as of June 30 was $1,976,106.65.

A third contender in the race is Green Party candidate Lynn Kahn of Schroon Lake.

The deadline for reporting third-quarter figures to the FEC is Oct. 15.
