CANTON -- A four-person committee made of up Democratic County Legislators will work to find a replacement for John Putney, who will resign April 6.
St. Lawrence County Legislature Chairman Joseph Lightfoot appointed the county’s four remaining Democrat legislators to that committee.
The group includes Rick Perkins, Tony Arquiett, Gregory M. Paquin and Stephen Putman.
Lightfoot said that according to the county bylaws the full board is obligated to appoint whomever the committee recommends.
Putney said the situation is similar to Lightfoot’s appointment when he replaced former legislator Tom Nichols. He said Lightfoot was appointment to the board by a majority of Democrats.
Putney said he has not yet made a recommendation, but will be conferring with committee during the search for a candidate.
He expects the new candidate to be in place when he his resignation becomes effective.
