DEKALB JUNCTION -- A DeKalb Junction woman is hoping a GoFundMe campaign will help her raise a total of $75,000 to get improved prosthetic knees.
Lisa Hendricks, 43, was air-lifted April 4, 2015 to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Vermont after the vehicle she was driving crashed into a tractor trailer that Saturday afternoon on U.S. Highway 11.
As a result of the accident, Hendricks lost both legs.
She has baseline prosthetics with basic manual knees, but she says “they are unsafe and I have fallen six times with them,” according to her GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/e93s2mxz.
“The prosthetic professionals tell me that I really require OttoBock C-leg 4 microprocessor knees in order to obtain my optimal mobility in a safe, relatively fall free environment. These two units will cost $75,000,” she said.
As of Monday afternoon she had raised about $7,651, in the past month from 60 people, about one-tenth of the cost of the new knees.
She is grateful to those who have given already and is looking forward to more progress in the campaign.
