DEKALB JUNCTION – A DeKalb Junction man is mounting a write-in campaign for one of three Town Council seats that are up for election in November.

Jordan Deleel, a 27-year-old native of St. Lawrence County, says he is beginning a door-to-door campaign today to meet voters and pass out flyers telling voters about himself.

“I missed the deadline for the ballot, but I’ve always been in for volunteering,” so two four-year seats on the town board that are up for grabs in November give him a chance to work for the Town of DeKalb, he said.

There is also a two-year unexpired term that will be filled in November, but he is going for a longer-term seat.

“I’m going to go door-to door with a flyer about my background. My family, some neighbors and volunteers will also pass out the flyers.

He said he sees no particular issue at stake other than getting some young people involved in town government.

“There are just no young people in any operations with the town,” Deleel said. “At some point people have to get involved. I’ve talked to younger people around town who can’t wait to see the world. But I’m sure there are many people staying and living in DeKalb.”

The seats he has his eye on are held by incumbents Rae Ann Davis and Harold Lowery. The top two vote-getters in November will win those seats.

Deleel, who works for Renzi Foodservice, has lived in DeKalb Junction for six years. “My wife was raised in DeKalb, and I was born in Norfolk and have been in St. Lawrence County all my life,” he said.

As for volunteering, he said he has been “in fire service for 12 years years, with Hermon, because they have an EMS program.
