CANTON -- The memory of Shirley M. Wells, 89, who died in Canton earlier this year, will live on at United Helpers thanks to her generous estate donation which will support the United Helpers Endowment Fund.
Wells chose to donate her home to the Society of the United Helpers and the proceeds from the sale will go to the Endowment Fund which ensures the long-term viability of the organization.
Wells, wife of the late John H. Wells of Canton, was extremely active in the community.
Working as a kindergarten and third grade teacher for 21 years in Canton, Mrs. Wells was always looking for other ways to give back. One of those ways included her musical abilities.
Wells was also known for her talent on the piano and she would frequent a variety of organizations, including United Helpers facilities, to share her gift.
Wells and her husband began building their home in Canton in the 1950\s and finished it in the ’90s.
Wells passed away on May 3 at the United Helpers Maplewood Campus.
