DEC seeks input on plan for Cranberry Lake Campground

CRANBERRY LAKE -- The state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is asking the public to review and comment on a draft Unit Management Plan (UMP) for the Cranberry Lake Campground in St. Lawrence County.

The UMP will guide management of the campground over the next five years.

The campground is in the western Adirondack Park on the northeastern shore of Cranberry Lake, the third-largest body of water in the park. About three-quarters of Cranberry Lake’s shoreline is bounded by Forest Preserve lands.

“The surrounding area is a haven for outdoor recreationists and is well known for its excellent hunting, fishing and hiking opportunities,” DEC Region 6 Director Judy Drabicki said.

The draft Cranberry Lake Campground UMP documents are on DEC’s website at http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24460.html.

Copies are also available in electronic form on compact disc and may be requested by calling (518) 457-2500.

DEC will also accept public input on the draft UMP at an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 23 at the Cranberry Lake Campground Pavilion, 243 Lone Pine Rd., Cranberry Lake.

Public comments on the draft UMP can also be submitted by mail to NYS DEC Bureau of Recreation, 625 Broadway, Albany, N.Y. 12233- 5253 or email to campinfo@dec.ny.gov.

All comments must be received by July 15. DEC will review these comments as it finalizes the UMP for the Cranberry Lake Campground.
