More pheasants are being released this week by the state Department of Environmental Conservation in St. Lawrence, Jefferson and Oneida counties.
These birds being distributed around the state are surplus pheasants from the New York State game farm.
The pheasants are to be released at various locations on State Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs). The pheasant season in Region 6 opened on Oct. 1 and will close on Feb. 28.
Already this fall, approximately 3,600 adult pheasants were released throughout the five counties in DEC’s Region 6. In St. Lawrence County, birds were released on Fish Creek in Macomb, the Upper and Lower Lakes area of Canton, and Wilson Hill in Louisville.
St. Lawrence County will be stocked with 140 more pheasants at Upper and Lower Lakes WMA this week.
