CRANBERRY LAKE – The state Department of Environmental Conservation is asking the public to review and submit comments on a Draft Unit Management Plan (UMP) for the Cranberry Lake Public Campground in St. Lawrence County.

The UMP will guide future management of the campground over the next five years.

The draft plan for the Cranberry Lake Public Campground has goals that include protecting the natural resource base in accordance with applicable law, offering recreational opportunities for public enjoyment of the forest preserve, ensuring that revenues equal operating costs for that portion of the program covered by user fees, and managing the program to enhance economic benefits to local communities and the state..

The campground is on the northeastern shore of Cranberry Lake, in the western part of the Adirondack Park.

The lake is the third-largest body of water in the park. Approximately three-quarters of Cranberry Lake’s shoreline is bounded by Forest Preserve.

The Public Draft UMP is available for review on the Cranberry Lake Campground page in the Planning and Management section. The document’s web address is http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/permits_ej_operations_pdf/cranberrypublicdraftump.pdf

Copies are also available in electronic format on compact disc and may be requested by calling (518) 457-2500.

People can submit their comments in two ways:

• Comments will be welcome at an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 23 at the Cranberry Lake Campground Pavilion, 243 Lone Pine Road, Cranberry Lake, NY 12927

• Comments in writing will be accepted through July 15, either by email to campinfo@dec.ny.gov or mail to NYSDEC Bureau of Recreation, 625 Broadway, Albany NY 12233- 5253.

DEC will review all comments prior to finalizing the UMP for the Cranberry Lake Campground.
