MASSENA -- The Drug Enforcement Administration is now involved in the case of two people found dead in a Victory Road apartment in May. Meanwhile, police are still awaiting their toxicology results and autopsy reports.

Following a 911 call, police responded to 55 Victory Road Apt. 13 on May 26 around 6:10 a.m.

Inside, they found two people dead - Sara B. Cutler, 28, of Norwood and Brian S. Fontaine, 47, of Massena.

“Due to the uniqueness of the case, they contacted us and asked if we would like some assistance, and we said yes,” Massena Police Chief Adam Love said.

He said the federal agency’s attention was draw by fact that two people died of what could have been a drug overdose, but investigators still aren’t sure of how they died.

Dr. Samuel Livingstone performed an autopsy on each of the deceased the evening of May 26. Police are still waiting on a toxicology screening from the state crime lab in Albany.

“I unfortunately have no idea on why it’s taking so long,” Love said.

He also said they have not yet received the autopsy report, so he isn’t sure what was ruled as far as cause and manner of death.

Love said part of the investigation centers on finding what Cutler and Fontaine were doing prior to their deaths.

“We’re trying to build a timeline of their lives up to the point where they were located deceased,” Love said, adding that he doesn’t yet know if the probe will lead to an arrest.

Love declined to say if the investigation has turned up any suspects or persons of interest.

“I’m not going to answer that at this time. I don’t want to hinder anything to do with our investigation,” he said.

He did not want to say who called 911 the morning the pair’s bodies were found.

“I’m not going to release that information at this time,” Love said.

He asks anyone who has information on the case can pass it on to police through their tip line, 764-5508 or email crimetips@massenapd.com.
