Dale Planck claims 358 Modified checkers in dominant fashion at Mohawk Raceway in Akwesasne

AKWESASNE - The racing surface at Mohawk International Raceway is always smooth and fast. On Friday night it was no different.

Multiple groves allowed for some of the best side by side racing in all 5 divisions.

Todd Stone and Tom Jock Jr. brought the field of 28 small block modifieds to the green flag with Stone grabbing the top spot heading into turn 1. Stone was able to put quite a distance between himself and the rest of the field as behind him Perry Francis, Dale Planck, Carey Terrance and Tom Conklin battled in the top 5.

"The Natural" Dale Planck had mechanical issues last week and was on a mission. After starting 8th he patiently worked his way up into 2nd by lap 8 and set sail after leader Todd Stone. Stone entered into lapped traffic by lap 10 which allowed Planck to close. On lap 13 Planck made his move going into turn 1 taking the lead away. With the race going caution free, and one of the most competitive fields at Mohawk in recent history passing cars was tough.

Last weeks winner Danny O'Brien started 19th and was able to move into the top 10 just past the halfway point while defending track champion Chris Raabe started 15th and would end up 9th at the checkers. Up front Dale Planck had the fastest car on the track and after a heartbreak last week Planck would collect his first win of the season over Stone, Carey Terrance came from 10th starting spot to finish 3rd while 358 rookie Tom Conklin had his best finish of the year in 4th. Tim O'Brien slipped past Brian McDonald for 5th at the finish.

In the Sportsman Brian Copp and Steve Billings lead the 26 car field to Austin Swamps green flag with Copp grabbing the advantage over Billings, Thunder Anderson, Louie Jackson Jr., and Mike Arquiett. Copp who has gone winless in his Sportsman career was looking strong as he began to pull away from the field. Caution slowed the field as Thomas Jock III spun off turn 1 on lap 6. On the restart Louie Jackson Jr. showed his muscle as he jumped to the top shelf and grabbed the lead in turn 1 bringing defending track champion Dylan Evoy with him to 2nd, Copp, Dillon Sallows and last weeks winner Brandon Hagan rounded out the top 5. Jackson and Evoy were running strong up front but the "Brockville Bullet" had a game plan as he was able to get by Jackson for the top spot on lap 10 and started to open up a sizeable lead over the rest of the field. Last weeks winner Brandon Hagan was also on the move as he took 2nd from Jackson by lap 13 after starting in the 19th position.

Dylan Evoy won 9 times enroute to the track title in 2011 and on this night showed he's back to defend it as he grabbed his first win of the season over Hagan. Brent Kelsey, Louie Jackson Jr. and Dillon Sallows.

In the Pro Stocks 2 former track champions led the field to the green as 2010 champion Ricky Thompson and 2008 champion Stephane Lebrun led the field to the green with Lebrun taking away the lead with Thompson, Owen White, Dan Desnoyers and Chris Tremblay giving chase. Lebrun was in search of his 31st career DIRTcar Pro Stock win but the man on the move was Dion Oakes. Oakes who has not won in a long time was able to run down the leader and on lap 6 would make his move taking the top spot

away. With Oakes, Lebrun and Thompson out front the battle for 4th was a 4 way scramble between Dan Desnoyers, PJ Peters, Roch Aubin and Chris Tremblay. These 4 driver put on a show for the fans until Peters was able to clear himself by lap 15. Despite all the action Dion Oakes was setting a torrid pace as he would go on to take the win by a full straightaway over Peters, Marc Lalonde, Stephane Lebrun and Ricky Thompson.

In the Mod Lites Scott Waldorff and Dan Reif led the field to the green and after a great side by side battle Waldorff was in command with Reif, Matt Meuten, Bryan Green and Mathieu Robison rounding out the top 5. Bryan Green looked to have the car to beat as he rode the top side of the speedway but last weeks winner and defending track champion Mathieu Robinson had other plans. With 2 laps to go Robison had the bottom working and was able to get the lead away. As the top 2 raced into turn 3

Green gave one last shot off turn 4 but Robinson would hang on to collect his 2nd in a row over Green, Matt Meuten, Scott Waldorff and Scott Mere.

In the Bandits Stuart Mossow and Andrew Fish led the field to the green with Mossow getting the early lead. Mossow had one of the fastest cars on the track and began to

build up a commanding lead. Ernie Cree was fast last week but had to settle for 2nd, but on this night he was determined as he grabbed the lead just past the halfway point. Cree would go unchallenged the rest of the way for his first win of the season over Mossow, Mathieu Aubin, Daryl Mitchell and Matt Zira.

Next week the first round of the Frenchie's "Chevy Runs Deep" 358 Modified Series will highlight the evening plus a regular card of racing for the Sportsman, Pro Stock, Bandits and Mod Lites. The first green flag drops at 7:45pm.
