OGDENSBURG -- Police are keeping a tight lid on developments along the St. Lawrence River near the Greenbelt in an investigation of a body recovered from the river today.
St. Lawrence County District Attorney Mary Rain is on the scene and elements of the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force are also believed to be present, suggesting the incident is more than a simple drowning. They were said to be awaiting the arrival of a county coroner.
Reporters on the scene say views of the shore and the boat believed to have recovered the body have been blocked by police vehicles. No one aside from police and rescue personnel are being permitted near the recovery scene.
They have also blocked off the pedestrian walkway on the twin bridges near the scene.
Ogdensburg City Police have confirmed there is an investigation of a body in the river underway.
The boat believed to be carrying the body has moved to Customs House, and police reportedly have followed.
