COLTON -- Recent snowfalls have allowed cross-country skiers to enjoy the trails at Higley Flow State Park into late March.
Excellent conditions have prevailed though March, and with the new snow and long range weather forecasts, skiing may still be available through the week of March 24, according to Tom French. president of Friends of Higley Flow State Park.
Reports of current conditions can be found at Higleyfriends.org.
There are over 10 miles of groomed trails at the park, ranging from woods trails good for classic style skiing, to several miles of wider trails groomed for classic and skate skiing.
The ski trails at Higley Flow State Park are groomed through the efforts of volunteers from the Friends and St. Lawrence University.
The Friends are in the middle of a $120,000 capital project at the park for the Higley Trails Lodge. The building will be used
as a Nature Center during the summer and as a ski lodge in the winter.
They have received generous donations from Friends members, park patrons, local businesses, the Sweetgrass Foundation,
and a $60,000 grant from New York State.
Completion is expected in late spring.
