COLTON -- Cross-country skiers spent Christmas week looking for trails with enough snow on them to make it worthwhile to step into their skis.
But the weather, in the form of rain and warm temperatures, has washed out most trails.
Judy Fuhr of Colton checked the trails in Higley Flow State Park this past weekend.
"There are patches of snow left on most trails, but none long enough to warrant skiing," she said in an email.
She also took a minute to do some clearing. "We walked Overlook, picking up a few small branches. If anyone is out walking the trails please throw off branches you come across. If you could, e-mail us so we know which trails have been checked," she wrote, noting her email address at jfuhr@twcny.rr.com.
With cooler temperatures and a chance of snow later in the week, the trails at Higley and elsewhere could be back in shape soon.
