CRANBERRY LAKE -- The Cranberry Lake Fire Department now has a new sign in front of their station showing the danger of wildfire.
“Most wildfires are preventable. In order to see success in fire prevention, we need the help of the public. Communication with the public is a critical element toward that end,” said Cranberry Lake Fire Chief Mike Dolan.
Through grant from the Northern New York Community Foundation and the Clifton-Fine Community Fund, the Cranberry Lake Fire Department was able to commission a wildfire danger indicator sign, which was recently installed at their firehouse.
Employing bright color and an easily-referenced scale which reflects the fire danger levels used throughout the country, the sign will give residents and visitors and easy to understand idea of the danger levels.
Dolan said he hopes this will help people make wiser decisions and exercise more caution when using fire outdoors.
“Even if the danger is relatively low, the simple act of bringing the issue to the public’s attention has a positive effect on the level of caution when using campfires,” Dolan said.
The sign will be displayed through the entire fire season.
