BRASHER – A couple from Fort Covington was arrested Wednesday after they allegedly tried to steal freshly cut wood from posted property on County Rt. 38, according to state police.
Russell W. Crossman, 52, and Cassie E. Clarke, 53, both of 359 County Rt. 3, Fort Covington, were charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and trespass.
The pair allegedly cut three trees on the posted property, police report. While loading the cut wood into their vehicle, they were spotted by the landowner, who demanded that they leave.
Police said the two then unloaded the wood from the vehicle and left the scene. They were later arrested at their Fort Covington residence, processed at the Massena station, and released with appearance tickets for Brasher Town Court on Feb. 14.
