CANTON -- Citing a reduction in employees and services, county legislators voted to reduce the salary of its next public health director.
At a finance committee meeting Monday, legislators passed a resolution that would adjust the Public Health Director’s pay grade from seven to six.
The grade seven pay scale ranges from $85,894 to $107,081, while the grade six scale ranges from $74,205 to $92,468.
According to the resolution the department has eliminated a number of services and programs and cut 48 position over the past two years. This was largely do to the elimination of the county’s home health agency.
“As a result of these reductions in programs and personnel it is recommended that the 2014 Management Salary Schedule be amended to reflect these changes,” the resolution says.
A review by the management compensation committee recommended the adjustment.
St. Lawrence County has not had a permanent public health director Susan J. Hathaway resigned in August of 2013
Currently, Lorraine Kourofsky is serving as interim director.
St. Lawrence County Legislators will likely act on the resolution at the June 2 meeting of the full board. The resolution would not affect Kourofsky’s pay.
