CANTON – A former Norwood man and current county jail inmate with a history of abusing his wife has been charged with nine felony counts of first-degree criminal contempt for allegedly lying to corrections officials and breaking a court order of protection.

Jonathan J. Emlaw, 31, 3540 County Rt. 47, Norwood, and currently of the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, reportedly put false information on his call list to enable him to contact a protected party under a court order of protection, according to sheriff’s deputies.

The nine calls occurred over a three-day period and were brought to the attention of the facility.

Emlaw will appear in Canton Village Court at a later date and the investigation is ongoing, deputies report.

In December of 2010, Emlaw was arrested for allegedly punching his wife in the face while having an argument with her at the entrance of the Massena Walmart.

In February of this year, Emlaw was arrested for allegedly breaking his wife’s arm during an argument.

And again in July, he was arrested for breaking into his then-estranged wife’s house, tackling her down a hallway, taking her purse and removing the battery from her cell phone to prevent her from calling police, all in front of their 10-year-old son, according to troopers.
