CANTON - The New York State Council on the Arts has awarded the St. Lawrence County Historical Association a grant of $10,480 for general operating support for 2012, a 9.43 percent reduction from 2011.
The grant helps to support exhibits and programs such as the Second Saturday Children's program, Brown Bag Lunch series and North Country Civil War Round Table.
"This reduction is due to budget cuts to the New York State Council on the Arts. NYSCA is very satisfied with the quality of SLCHA's exhibits and programs,” said SLCHA Executive Director Trent Trulock, “With the very real possibility that St. Lawrence County support might drop to zero dollars for 2012, NYSCA's support is more critical than ever.
“While 76% of SLCHA's funding comes from its members, donors, endowment and fundraising events, it takes additional funding from a variety of sources to balance its budget of $171,923," he added.
