CANTON -- St. Lawrence County’s new administrator has working knowledge of the county’s business and will be an asset to its operations, according to county Board of Legislators Chair Joseph Lightfoot.
Lisbon resident Ruth Doyle, who currently serves as assistant admininistrator, will assume the role in the wake of Karen St. Hilaire’s retirement.
Lightfoot says the county received 23 applications from candidates both inside and outside of the county.
He said she is the best candidate of the three finalists and was appointed unanimously to the position.
Lightfoot says she has a strong financial background as well as an intimate knowledge of the county’s affairs.
Aside from her experience, Lightfoot said she is also a well-mannered and likable leader.
“She is a very nice lady. I do believe that will go very well with her interactions with the unions and department heads,” he said.
Doyle has served as the assistant county administrator since 2008.
The administrator supervises and coordinates the 26 departments and agencies, at the direction of county legislators.
The administrator is responsible for planning, budgeting, monitoring, policy enactment and goal setting in regard to all phases of county operations.
