St. Lawrence County legislators will fill an assistant district attorney and data management technician position.

Lawmakers agreed Monday to hire an assistant district attorney after the position was ‘vacated’ on Jan. 26. The resolution calling for the hire states that St. Lawrence County’s District Attorney Office should have 12 ADAs but currently only has 5.5.

“Filling this position is absolutely critical to allow the office of the district attorney to safeguard the rights of victims, seek justice with steadfast and ethical determination and adequately achieve its constitutional and statutory obligations,” the resolution says.

The county will also fill a data management technician position that was vacated Jan. 14.

“This position handles all aspects of the election process including daily upkeep and maintenance of election records including registrations; notifications from other agencies, including notifications of new felons; other agencies responsible for registering voters; educating students; coordinating and assisting with financial disclosure for all candidates; coordinates and trains 400 inspectors annually; tests voting machines quarterly as per state law; testing of machines to certify their accuracy prior to every election; and involved with the postelection re-canvassing, audit and certification process,” according to the resolution.

County legislators also voted to abolish a senior account clerk position at the rate of $41,121 annually and created a new principal account clerk at a salary of $36,779 annually.

According to the resolution the senior account clerk position was vacated Feb. 2 due to a transfer.

A similar move was made in the probation department where the county abolished a legal secretary position and a probation officer position with salaries totaling $83,179 and created a direct service workers probation officer position with a salary of $42,683 annually.
