County clerk says 2011 Canton DMV revenues up from 2010

CANTON – From January through November this year, the Canton Department of Motor Vehicle office has surpassed the revenue generated in all of 2010, according to St. Lawrence County Clerk Gavin Regan.

The revenues are also up over 26 percent for October 2011 compared to October 2010, the interim clerk says.

Total revenue at the Canton DMV office for 2010 was $1.51 million; as of November 30, 2011, year-to-date revenue is $1.58 million.

Regan lost in his bid to stay as county clerk. He was appointed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo after his predecessor, Patty Ritchie, won a seat in the state Senate.

During the campaign, both Regan and his opponent, Mary Lou Rupp, who was Ritchie’s deputy and was fired by Regan, claimed they would be better at continuing the increased revenue stream that Ritchie built through soliciting out-of-county DMV business.

Rupp beat Regan by more than two-to one, and will be sworn in as the new clerk next month.

“Due to the hard work of our dedicated employees in our four DMV offices we have been able to continue the great service the residents of St. Lawrence County have been accustom to and increase revenue for the county at the same time,” Regan said in his announcement.

The St. Lawrence County Clerk has Department of Motor Vehicle Offices in Canton, Gouverneur, Massena, and Ogdensburg.
