CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Board of Elections office on Court Street will be open until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18 and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 21 to issue absentee ballots for the Republican primary contest in St. Lawrence County on Tuesday, April 24.

One polling place in each township in the county will be open on Primary Day from noon to 9 p.m. for the Republican Party primary for candidates for president.

Candidates on the ballot will be former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, Texas congressman Ron Paul, Georgia historian and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum, even though he dropped out of the race last week.

The county Board of Elections consolidated polling sites into one for each township to accommodate primary voters, which generally vote in much smaller numbers than the number of people who cast ballots in a general election.

In the greater Canton-Potsdam area, the polling sites are: Brasher, Brasher Municipal Building, 11 Factory St.; Canton, Canton Fire Department, 77 Riverside Drive; Colton, Colton Town Hall, 94 Main St.; DeKalb, DeKalb Town Hall, 2907 County Route 17; Hopkinton, Hopkinton Town Hall, 15 Church St.; Lawrence, Lawrenceville Fire Department, 1081 County Route 54, Lawrenceville; Madrid, Madrid Hepburn Library, 11 Church St.; Norfolk, Norfolk Rescue Squad Building, 7 Sedwick St.; Parishville, Parishville Town Hall, 1772 State Hwy 72; Pierrepont, Pierrepont Town Hall, 864 State Highway 68; Potsdam, Snell Hall, 41 Elm St.; Stockholm, Brasher Winthrop Fire Dept, 708 State Hwy 11C, Winthrop.
